For many of us, the image we have of a DIYer has been formed through the late 1990’s DIY TV programmes and involves lots of energetic, thirty-something couples, looking to try their hand at anything.
However, today’s 21st Century DIYer comes in a wide range of shapes and sizes and they are more interested in buying interesting, high-quality products that endorse their design aesthetic, rather than focusing on penny pinching.
A Google study highlighted that almost half of DIY projects are undertaken because people take pleasure in doing the DIY project, rather than it just being about saving money and research from Venveo has also shown that those who undertake DIY are a diverse bunch:
- 50% of DIY consumers are female
- 52% of DIYers are aged 24-44 years of age, meaning that a love of DIY embraces both Millennials and those in Gen X
- Those aged 35-54 are the most likely to be driven by a desire to incorporate DIY projects that increase energy efficiency
- Unsurprisingly consumers aged 55+ take on DIY projects such as household repairs and preparation for growing older in their homes
- A staggering 88% of DIYers watch ‘how to video’s’ on line
- DIYers aged 18-54 are attracted to smart home technologies and they look for two key features – is it easy to install and can it be integrated with a mobile app?
The rise of smart radiators to meet 21st Century DIYer needs
With such a cross-section of DIYers, Haverland has a wide range of products to meet the variety of needs that are represented by today’s 21st Century DIYer. From traditional electric radiators to the company’s latest IoT connected heater – ULTRAD, Haverland has a style to suit any need.
The ULTRAD is proving particularly popular, as it is a self-learning electric radiator that can be controlled with a smartphone, tablet via an Android/ IOS App or through your browser in any computer from anywhere in the world. It learns when the room is in use and can also detect movement; adjusting the temperature accordingly. With every degree of temperature dropped, it saves 7 to 8% of the energy used.
Video popularity
With so many of today’s DIYers choosing to visit YouTube, rather than the hardware store when they have a question, instructional video content is vital. This is why Haverland has a Youtube channel dedicated to electric radiator installation. In fact, to see just how easy it is to install a smart radiator, why not click here?
The 21st Century DIYer may look different to those of the 1990’s, but their passion for creating something individual remains unchanged – here’s to the next-generation of DIY!
